چکیده

In this report, we revisit a much explored topic in networking the search for a simple yet fully general and efficient multicast design. The many years of research into multicast routing have led to a generally pessimistic view that the complexity of multicast routing and interdomain multicast in particular can only be overcome by restricting the service model, as in the case of single-source multicast. This report proposes a new approach to implementing IP multicast that, we hope, might lead to a reevaluation of this commonly held view. This report proposes Free Riding Multicast (FRM) a new approach to network-level multicast routing and our primary contribution is a new protocol aimed at simplifying cross-domain deployment of IP multicast. By replacing distributed tree computation with a multicast variant of source routing, FRM sidesteps much of the complexity associated with traditional solutions, while retaining efficiency and full generality of the service model.

Coordination of Information Sharing and Cooperative Advertising in a Decentralized Supply Chain with Competing Retailers Considering Free Riding Behavior

This paper studies a decentralized supply chain in which a manufacturer sells a common generic product through two traditional and online retailers under free riding market. We assume that the traditional retailer provides the value added services but the online retailer does not. Factors such as retail prices, local advertising of the retailers, global advertising of the manufacturer and servi...

Design of Reliability Insurance Scheme Based on Utility Function for Improvement of Distribution Grid Reliability

The regulatory schemes currently used for reliability improvement have weaknesses in the provision of quality services based on the customers’ perspective. These schemes consider the average of the service as a criterion to incentivize or penalize the distribution system operators (DSOs). On the other hand, most DSOs do not differentiate electricity services at the customer level, due to the st...

A Workload Balancing Based Approach to Discourage Free Riding in Peer-to-Peer Network

We propose a workload balancing based approach to discourage free riding in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network. The heart of our mechanism is to migrate some shared files from the overloaded peers to the neighbored free riders automatically and transparently, which enforces free riders to offer services when altruistic peers are heavily overloaded. The implementation techniques are discussed in detail....

Examining the Implementation of the Free Maternity Services Policy in Kenya: A Mixed Methods Process Evaluation

Background Kenya introduced a free maternity policy in 2013 to address the cost barrier associated with accessing maternal health services. We carried out a mixed methods process evaluation of the policy to examine the extent to which the policy had been implemented according to design, and positive experiences and challenges encountered during implementation.   Methods We conducted a mixed met...

A Empirically Validated Framework for Limiting Free-Riding in P2P Networks through the Use of Social Network Information

In order to overcome the problem of free-riding in current P2P system, we suggest applying social network theory. Based on our exploration of the overlapping research fields of social networks and peer-to-peer networks, we propose a new P2P framework within this paper. It specifies social network information that can be used in a P2P system to avoid performance inefficiencies caused by free-rid...
